The National Cat Protection Society (NatCat) is a non-profit, no-kill 501(c)(3) animal shelter and adoption organization dedicated to cats and kittens. Founded in 1968, we care for owner-relinquished kitties until they find a proper home or need a retirement home.
Located in Orange County and San Diego, our two local animal shelters offer clean, comfortable and safe open rooms, kitten quarters and "outdoor access" in large, enclosed patio areas. In our retirement centers are floor-to-ceiling scratching posts, wall-to-wall walkways and other health-promoting designs.
Our trained staff and dedicated volunteers share a tremendous love for cats and selfless commitment to their well-being. We also provide humane education throughout our communities. After purr-using our website, we hope you will consider supporting our organization through adoption, volunteering, memberships or donations—from Southern California or your kitty-corner of the world.

We took this interest and formed The Great Pyrenees Alliance of the West (GPAW), which resulted in becoming an affiliate of the Great Pyrenees Club of America. Our goal is to provide continuing education about our wonderful and unique breed and host a variety of activities we can enjoy with our Pyrs. Our activities run the gamut from parades (Christmas, Fourth of July and the Santa Barbara Big Dog) to wine tasting fund raising, to a tour of a working apple orchard, to professional picture taking of our dogs in the California poppy fields, walks sponsored by local community organizations and versatility events. We also have members who cart and some who spin Pyr fur, and others who are very involved doing therapy work with their Pyrs.

Everyone had a wonderful time as the club boasted 15 entries with 5 dogs in its first Parade of Champions. The goal was to bring Ridgeback owners together to become acquainted and to have fun with their dogs. Over 20 years later, this is still a primary function of the club. In addition to fun, the club also supports breed rescue, sponsors information seminars for members and guests, and promotes education to the public about our wonderful breed.
