Veterinary technicians are animal nurses. They are passionate about animal care and are dedicated health care professionals who nurture the health and well-being of animals through specialized knowledge of animal behavior and care, surgical assisting, laboratory testing and nursing procedures.
As a veterinary technician, you will typically work under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian doing clinical work. This includes tasks such as performing various medical tests, and treating animals with medical conditions and diseases.
By going to school specifically for veterinary nursing, you will be qualified to work closely with veterinarians in the areas of surgery, lab procedures and radiography. Your work options are diverse: you may be in a clinic, at a wild animal park or with a zoo treating domestic or exotic animals.
The Veterinary Technician program at Pima Medical Institute includes courses that offer in-depth study in nursing skills, laboratory procedures, equine medicine and nursing, and livestock animals, as well as lab animal and exotic animal medicine.
The first sequence of courses will be taught in a hybrid learning system – a unique mix of online and classroom work that will serve as a solid foundation for the rest of your education.
VETERINARY ASSISTANT PROGRAM
A veterinary assistant provides compassionate medical care to all animals and promotes their well-being by performing multiple tasks under the supervision of veterinarians and veterinary technicians.
Our training program will teach you how to:
Open Arms Rescue focuses on smaller breed dogs. We are a Non-Profit 501c3 Registered Charity and ALL volunteer based organization. We are based in Imperial Beach, CA but we have volunteers who foster dogs for us all across San Diego County, Riverside and Orange County.
We are always looking for more volunteers to help foster a small breed dog. We rescue dogs from shelters across Southern California and all the way into the Mexico -Tijuana Perrera (Dog Pound) and from the streets of Mexico down to Ensenada. We have volunteers that go down to Baja on a regular basis to help out with feeding, cleaning and finding dogs to bring into our rescue program. Dogs in the Perrera only have 3 days before they are euthanized. We rescue a lot of dogs from this shelter because they have no chance of being adopted before they are either euthanized or become sick from being exposed to the disease (as they are not vaccinated there when they first come into the Perrera).
We select dogs that are adoptable, we quarantine them at our vet in Baja, monitor them, vaccinate them and then transport them to the US straight into volunteers homes for fostering until they can be adopted out. We also take in injured dogs that require surgeries to become healthy and adoptable. Typically when a California shelter receives an injured or special needs dog that is in need of surgery that the shelter is unable to perform due to their limited funds/resources they will either put the dog to sleep or only exit it to an approved rescue partner who can get the necessary medical care performed. We take a lot of these cases in from these California shelters and our adoption fees help support the medical bills. All of our dogs for adoption are spayed or neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated, flea/tick treated and de-wormed.
We are always in need of volunteers to foster a small breed dog. If you would like more info on becoming a volunteer foster parent please see the last page on this site "volunteering to foster" and if you would like to be contacted send us your info on "contact us" page.
Also if you wish to donate any supplies we are always in need of:
Dog food
puppy pee pads (Chux)
flea control spot treatment (Advantage/Frontline etc etc)
dog beds, old bedding, towels, blankets
treats/chewies
leashes, collars and harnesses
toys
crates/cages/pens/doggy fencing/baby gates
laundry detergent
Paper towels
Play Pens, dog kennels/runs, crates
kiddie pools

Providing Service Dogs for Active Military, Veterans, and First Responders with PTSD
OUR MISSION
To renew the life of veterans and first responders through service dog placement, training, and education by mobilizing public and private resources.
OUR VISION
Next Step Service Dogs (NSSD) supports courageous veterans, active military personnel, and first responders with PTSD, TBI and/or mobility limitations by giving them the tools to take the next steps forward in their lives by assisting in the training of amazing service dogs.
NSSD is reducing the surging demand for well-trained and effective service dogs by supporting clients in training their own dogs for service, or by pairing them with suitable donated dogs to train. Additionally, Next Step provides paying jobs and career opportunities to unemployed, or underemployed, veterans; teaching them to train service dogs for other veterans with invisible disabilities.
NSSD does not charge for service dogs or their training, and supports each service dog throughout its life.
Alley Cats Mobile Veterinary Services is proud to serve North San Diego County and surrounding areas. We are dedicated to providing the highest level of veterinary medicine along with friendly, compassionate service.
We believe in treating every patient as if they were our own cat, and giving them the same loving attention and care. We are a group of highly trained, experienced animal lovers who are devoted to giving our patients the best care possible.
Comprehensive Physical Exams
Here at Alley Cats Mobile Veterinary Services, we are proud to offer comprehensive physical examinations for all life stages: kitten, adult, mature, and geriatric cats.
It is very important to make sure that your cat has routine complete physical examinations. Our staff will get a chance to talk to you and see if you are having any trouble with your pet. We will also go over diet, preventative medicine, and exercise to ensure that your pet is as healthy as possible.
Dr. Marchant will do a complete physical examination on your cat. It is always good to have a baseline in case your cat ever becomes ill. We also want to monitor your cat’s weight, ensuring that he/she stays a healthy weight. It is much easier to start a diet when a cat is a pound overweight instead of fifteen!
Acupuncture & Laser Therapy
Acupuncture
More people are looking for homeopathic remedies to solve their health problems. They see results, so many have started looking into the same remedies for their cats. For this reason, we are glad to be able to offer this service to those who are interested.
Acupuncture is one of our most commonly asked about treatments. It is quite helpful for cats that are in pain, even helping with cancer pain and osteoarthritis. It can also help our furry friends with a number of other problems including vomiting, endocrine disorders, and much more.
Many owners worry their cats will not tolerate acupuncture, but it is simple and usually enjoyable for them. They learn to love the interaction and experience.
If you are wondering if acupuncture could help your pets, don’t hesitate to ask your veterinarian. It does not hurt to try it out to see if it will make a difference.
Laser Therapy
We are always learning new and better ways to treat our patients. We also are dedicated to using the latest veterinary technologies. One way we do this is by providing laser therapy for our patients.
Laser therapy is a state-of-the-art alternative therapy to assist with pain and healing. It can be used after surgeries to help increase blood flow to local areas, improving healing. For this same reason, it is also helpful for wound healing. Cold laser therapy can also be used for chronic pain, helping to increase blood flow to those areas. We have also seen great success in using this therapy for patients with kidney failure.
Hospice
Saying goodbye to your cat can be extremely difficult. The process can be emotionally and mentally draining. We don’t want you to be alone at the end stages of your furry friend’s life, and we promise to do everything we can to make it easier on you and your pet. Most of all, we promise to treat each case with compassionate and understanding care.
Knowing when the time is right can be a difficult choice. There are many factors that go into deciding to euthanize a cat, and it is a personal issue that differs from pet owner to pet owner. But every pet owner is inevitably faced with making that tough decision, and we want to be there alongside you to aid in any way we can.
